TIMOTHY GRAY PHOTOGRAPHY

Who I Am

I am a professional photographer, printer, and educator located on the north side of Chicago. I shoot food, jewelry, and small product images for a living, and capture landscapes to feel alive. This is who I am, and this is what I do.

What I Do

I produce my own archival pigment prints. Each print is individually output onto museum-quality, matte fine art papers using an Epson Stylus Pro 7800 printer with archival UltraChrome K3 inks. If you'd like to purchase a print, or have me print one of your images, please contact me.

I shoot 35mm digital and medium format film. Each format has its strengths and weaknesses, and I let my creative vision dictate which one I use for a particular project. My 35mm digital gear consists of a Canon EOS 10D and select lenses & accessories. I shoot in RAW mode and process these digital negatives using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. The images I produce are breathtaking,; they not only match, but surpass, the quality of 35mm film.

On the film side, I shoot the "ideal" 6x7 format with a Mamiya RB67 Pro SD. Film is developed by Precision Imaging & Photo in Chicago. I scan each negative using an Epson V750 Pro high-end flatbed scanner, using Lasersoft's Silverfast Ai scanning software in 48-bit mode. Scans are then checked for color accuracy and prepared for printing using Adobe Photoshop CS3. This film/digital hybrid approach allows me to produce beautiful prints in sizes exceeding 30"x40".
